(An Initiative of Draw The Line Campaign, LBG)
SIKA SEM Financial Literacy Programme is a transformative financial education initiative designed specifically for Ghana’s mass informal sector.
SIKA SEM, meaning “Money Matters” in Twi, is a culturally rooted financial literacy programme delivered in the Akan (Twi) language through both television and radio platforms. The programme addresses a critical national gap: the limited access to structured financial education among traders, artisans, transport operators, market women, small-scale farmers, and micro-entrepreneurs who form the backbone of Ghana’s informal economy.
Over 70% of Ghana’s workforce operates within the informal sector, yet many lack foundational knowledge in budgeting, savings discipline, investment planning, credit management, pension systems, and business financial documentation. This gap results in poor capital retention, limited business scalability, vulnerability to debt traps, and low participation in formal financial systems.
Structured financial literacy content often exists, but delivered in English, in technical language, and targeted at the formal sector. The informal sector, despite being economically active, remains underserved.
SIKA SEM bridges this divide by translating complex financial principles into simple, relatable, and practical Twi-based conversations. The programme utilizes storytelling, real-life case studies, expert interviews, call-in sessions, and community engagement formats to demystify money management.
By using indigenous language media, SIKA SEM removes linguistic barriers and builds trust, relatability, and comprehension.
SIKA SEM aligns with Ghana’s broader financial inclusion and economic empowerment agenda. By equipping the informal sector with practical financial intelligence, the programme contributes directly to poverty reduction, enterprise sustainability, and national economic stability.
SIKA SEM is more than a media programme; it is a national behavioral change campaign on money management. Through culturally intelligent communication and mass media accessibility, Draw The Line Campaign is positioning financial literacy as a civic necessity rather than a luxury.
We are committed to scaling this initiative nationwide and partnering with financial institutions, development agencies, and corporate organizations that share our vision of building a financially literate and economically empowered Ghana.
